Develop and
adapt your own rich and meaningful mathematical tasks
Offer opportunities for multiple entry and exit points - Can
be represented in multiple ways (e.g., diagrams, manipulatives, symbols) -
Require meaning, justification and explanation - By extending tasks we can
shift the focus from computation to instead examining patterns and
relationships. By doing this we can offer opportunities for students to engage
in algebraic reasoning. - Extension of tasks also allows a focus on the big
ideas in mathematics!
During this workshop I gained greater knowledge on the
following:
Think about turning tasks around
Extending tasks to offer greater opportunities
Extending closed tasks
What other opportunities do number walls offer?
Number walls
Think about how you can develop rich meaningful tasks in
different areas
